環境エネルギー工学部会 Japan-Indonesia Bilateral Symposium on Sustainable Engineering
organized by Chemical Engineering Department, Gadjah Mada University, Indonesia In collaboration with Division of Environmental and Energy Technology, Iron and Steel Institute of Japan (ISIJ) Rationale As the global population grows and standards of living improve, there will be increasing stress on the world's limited resources. Thus engineers of the future will be asked to use the earth's resources more efficiently and produce less waste or process the existing waste into useful products, while at the same time satisfying an ever-increasing demand for goods and services. To prepare for such challenges, engineers will need to understand the impact of their decisions on natural systems, and must be able to coordinate with planners, decision makers, and the general public. Sustainable Engineering emphasizes these related issues. To build the awareness of this particular issue in Asia, Japan-Indonesia Bilateral Symposium on Sustainable Engineering will be held for the first time in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, on May 14, 2007. Scope of seminar In this seminar, various important aspects of sustainable engineering will be discussed. These include product design, energy and environment, innovation of renewable energy, utilization of natural resources and waste processing. Scope of activities The invited speakers and selected participants' papers will be presented in the seminar and be published in seminar proceeding. The official language of the seminar is English. The list of invited speakers is as follow; Prof. Tomohiro Akiyama (Hokkaido University, Japan); takiyama@eng.hokudai.ac.jp Prof. Yoshiaki Kashiwaya (Hokkaido University, Japan); yoshiaki@eng.hokudai.ac.jp Prof. Eiki Kasai (Tohoku University, Japan); kasai@tagen.tohoku.ac.jp Prof. Masataka Shimizu (Kyusu University, Japan); shimizu@zaiko.kyushu-u.ac.jp Emeritus Prof. Kuniyoshi Ishii (Hokkaido Univeristy, JFE Steel, Former leader of DEET, ISIJ, Japan); kuni-ishii@jfe-steel.co.jp Prof. Wahyudi Budi S (Gadjah Mada University, Indonesia) Dr. Hadi Purwanto (Indonesia) Expected participants Researchers from universities, Research institutes, Industries, Policy makers Important date
